Getting Your TN Enhanced Carry Permit
If you do NOT have a TN Real ID, you must visit a full-service Driver License Station. For a list of locations visit www.tn.gov/content/tn/safety/driver-services/classd/dlcitizen.html
We will enter your certificate and scores digitally. You do NOT need a physical copy. If they tell you that you do, the are simply wrong. At the DMV, you will need proof of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (certified birth certificate or valid U.S. Passport).
Payment in cash, credit card, money order or certified check. (They do not accept personal checks for an original handgun permit application.)
You must have your picture taken and your electronic signature captured.
Once the application process is complete, the examiner will provide written instructions on
fingerprint registration. You must be fingerprinted after your visit to the driver license station, even if you have been fingerprinted in the past and have top level security clearance. The cost of the fingerprints is included in the permit fee.
If you have a TN Real ID, you may log in to the same website you got your application number and complete the paper work. TN will email you instructions on fingerprinting. Once you get your finger printing done, you only need to wait for the back ground check to come back. No further action is needed on your part.
After your fingerprints have been submitted, you simply wait for your permit to arrive in the mail. Please allow the State at least thirty (30) days before you check on the status of your application. For legal questions please send an email to email.Safety@tn.gov
